A look back: Sept. 17, 1964

Modernization of the post office in Weatherly was further advanced yesterday with the announcement by Postmaster General John A. Gronouski that a contract has been awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hartz, Weatherly, to remodel and lease the building to the Post Office Department.

The building formerly housed Hartz’s store and luncheonette and is located in an area eligible to take part in the federal government’s new Area Redevelopment Program.

The successful bidder to remodel the structure is Hartz’s brother, Calvin G. Hartz, Weatherly contractor. The government has a five-year lease on the building, with options running up to 10 years.
