Schuylkill selects candidate for election bureau

The Schuylkill County Election Bureau could have a new director by Wednesday.

Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington said Friday a name will be on the weekly agenda.

“We have a candidate that we made an offer to and he has accepted,” Hetherington said.

He identified that person as Albert Gricoski, the former first deputy in the Schuylkill County Prothonotary’s Office who resigned last month because his son is doing online schooling, wanted to be home when needed in addition to focusing on his funeral business.

Hetherington said he made the offer on behalf of the commissioners Friday.

Gricoski was not able to be reached Friday.

Commissioners must still take official action at the public meeting. The salary board must also vote.

Hetherington said Gricoski is familiar with the elections office, knows where the precincts are and has run a county office before.

He said Gricoski sent letters to each commissioner promising he will be a full-time elections director. Hetherington said Gricoski will find a qualified person to run his funeral business from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the week. He is committed to devote the necessary time during this election season, Hetherington said.

Gricoski had been first deputy prothonotary since 2019. The former prothonotary David Dutcavich resigned last year. He said his family was his main reason for leaving.
