Friday virus update: 1,008 new cases reported

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Friday that there are 1,008 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 142,885. Allegheny is reporting an increase of 100 cases and Centre is reporting an increase of 137 cases.

There are 7,837 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 17 new deaths reported.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 21,759 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,727 cases among employees, for a total of 26,486 at 947 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,290 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

The department said 10,009 of the total cases are among health care workers.

Locally, Carbon County has 436 cases, an increase of five new cases, with 28 deaths.

Lehigh County reported 5,348 cases, an increase of 19 cases, with 345 deaths.

Luzerne County has 3,926 cases, an increase of 13, with 189 deaths.

Monroe County is reporting three new cases for a total of 1,753. There are 129 deaths.

Northampton has 4,210 cases, an increase of 14. There are 302 deaths.

Schuylkill County is reporting 1,026 cases, an increase of three, and 51 deaths.
