JT votes for 50% capacity

Jim Thorpe School Board voted Wednesday to allow 50% capacity at sporting events if the state allows districts to set their own attendance caps.

After the meeting school director TJ Garritano posted, “Our indoor gymnasium holds a max of 1,500 and our outdoor stadium holds a max of 1,500. That leaves max attendance at 750 for events that number includes the teams and staff participating.

He predicted the state House will override the veto.

“This can take up to 10 days for the law to be in place, please have patience,” he said. “ We are still going to follow CDC guidelines and parents will have top priority for attendance. A family can sit together however the next family over will need to be 6 feet in distance. Yes, masks will be required.”

He added, “This bill also takes the power away from the governor from dictating what schools will allow as far as athletics, meaning the State cannot shutdown school sports, that power is now with the local school boards forever.”
