Towamensing Township plans to regulate short-term rental properties.
Supervisors unanimously agreed on Thursday to advertise an ordinance for adoption at next month’s meeting.
The decision came after supervisors discussed short-term rentals/transient rentals/Airbnbs.
A recently established Airbnb near Beltzville Lake was the subject of complaint at last month’s meeting.
Supervisor Guy Seifert said at that time the property was in violation of zoning laws.
Township zoning officer Carl Faust previously said when he recently went to the three-bedroom home, he found 15 people.
That, Faust said, made them in violation of the township’s zoning ordinance.
Faust also said at that time that Airbnb rentals “are not a permitted use in the township,” and noted that neighboring Chestnuthill Township has adopted an ordinance and updated its zoning code to standardize short-term rentals.
The board’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Oct. 1.
