Fire company requests OK to seek grant for new station

Bowmanstown volunteer fire company requested council’s approval to apply for an LSA grant to build a new fire station with the possibility of an attached social hall.

The proposed plan would be for the new station to be located above the picnic grove on Lime Street.

The existing fire station would be torn down and made into a parking lot.

Keystone Construction would be completing the work, led by planning engineer Eric Snyder. The estimated cost of the project is between $1.2 million to $1.5 million and would be a lengthy project, as it wouldn’t reach completion for approximately three to five years.

Due to filing application deadlines for the LSA grant, the board concluded it would hold a special workshop meeting for further discussion at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 with engineer Eric Snyder present, who will assist in the grant application writing.
