West End Fire Company No. 2 sold

An embattled fire company that withdrew from the Palmerton Fire Department in 2018 has been sold.

The property transfer is from the West End Fire Company No. 2 of Palmerton, property on Princeton Avenue, to Bard Di LLC, 4518 Joshua Lane, Walnutport, $165,000.

Contacted Friday afternoon, borough manager Donna McGarry said it will be interesting to see what becomes of the property now that it’s in new hands.

“I have spoken with the gentleman who purchased it; he’s a very enthusiastic man,” McGarry said. “I get a sense he will take very good care of the property.”

In 2018, the West End Fire Company No. 2 withdrew from the Palmerton Fire Department, meaning all fire response from West End Fire Company No. 2 in Palmerton was halted at that time.

The borough has continued to provide all emergency services out of the municipal fire station, Palmerton Fire Department Chief Jason Behler said Friday afternoon.

“We’ve been doing it ever since they ceased operation as a volunteer fire department,” Behler said. “Any of the past members of that department who showed interest in serving have been welcomed and continue to provide service with us.”
