A look back: Sept. 5, 1972

Summit Hill Borough Council appointed a new president, unanimously electing Cosmo Arieta to hold the position.

The presidency was left vacant by the resignation of James Holmes, who relinquished it because his employment made it difficult to attend meetings and to fulfill his duties.

In other action, a payment of $5,000 for the Mauch Chunk Creek Watershed Project was acknowledged by the Carbon County Recreation Authority. The borough pledged $20,000 toward the project.

Elsewhere, council said it would consider a request by Edward Gildea of Lansford to zone the Switchback Trail as a scenic-historical trail.
