Medical secretary

Learn about a career as a medical secretary and the Northampton Community College’s program to prepare you for this field at a free information session.

Medical secretaries ensure that a medical practice, health care facility or treatment care center operate smoothly by greeting patients, maintaining schedules and accessing medical records. Participants will also gain medical knowledge, interpersonal skills and computer hardware and software.

Sessions will be held on Sept. 14, 11 a.m.-noon; Sept. 15, 11 a.m.-noon; Sept. 23, 7-8 p.m.; Sept. 24, 7-8 p.m.

There is a fee for the program. Scholarship assistance for the medical assistant program may be available to eligible applicants.

The medical secretary program is provided through a partnership with Eastcentral & Northeast PA Area Health Education Centers.

Participants must be 18 or older, be a Pennsylvania resident and have a high school diploma or GED.

Nonprofit management certificate

In partnership with LaSalle University, Northampton Community College will offer a certificate program in nonprofit management.

The first of several workshops will be held online on Sept. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants will learn the key responsibilities of senior managers and executive directors (fundraising, finance, HR, marketing, programming, etc.) as well as the critical relationship between staff and board in any nonprofit. Pathways to becoming an effective leader, manager, and facilitator will be clarified.

The program will teach participants how to identify potential critical management issues and address them effectively.

Nonprofit Management 101 is the first of 10 classes for current and future nonprofit leaders.

Completion of this noncredit series of classes will result in a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from La Salle’s Nonprofit Center and CBI. There is a fee.

Cops ‘n Kids Events

Northampton Community College will hold Cops ‘n Kids events on several Saturdays, during the fall semester, at the Just Born Cops ‘n Kids Reading Room at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem. Each session runs from 10 a.m.-noon.
