Carbon County court — DUI

A total of five defendants who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence charges, were sentenced on Thursday in Carbon County court by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Those sentenced were:

William Michell,

38, of Slatington, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and a one-year license suspension.

He was arrested for DUI of a controlled substance on Oct. 27, 2019, along Route 209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton.

On a charge of driving while under suspension, he was fined $200.

Stephanie Lynn Blew,

33, of Hazleton, was sentenced to serve 30 days to five years including 60 days on electronic monitoring in the restrictive probation program. She was also given credit for 37 days spent in an inpatient rehabilitation program. She was ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 and her license was suspended for 18 months.

She was arrested for DUI of a controlled substance on Dec. 27, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

She was given credit for two days on the jail term and will begin serving the remaining time on Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. on consecutive weekends.

Kelly Kerezsi,

48, of Weatherly, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300. It is a first offense.

She was arrested on June 8, 2019, along Hudsondale Street by Weatherly police. A test revealed a 0.19 BAC.

Kyle Robert Yandrisovitz,

27, of Bethlehem, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.

He was arrested on Nov. 27, 2016, by state police at Lehighton along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC. He was previously placed in the ARD program, but was revoked from it for violating conditions. Prior to a recent state Superior Court decision, the ARD charge would be counted against him and he would have faced a prison term, but the state court ruled prior ARD placements cannot be counted against a defendant. That decision is under appeal to the state’s Supreme Court.

Tara Danielle Smalley,

49, of Summit Hill, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300 and one-year license suspension.

She was arrested on Dec. 14, 2019, by Mahoning Township police along Mill Road. A test revealed a 0.20 BAC.

She will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30, and serve two days; and Sept. 6 at 7 p.m., and serve three days.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
