This year has been a challenge for many nonprofits, clubs and emergency services, but one Nesquehoning club is helping the borough police and fire departments.
Recently, the Sokol Citizens Club of Nesquehoning presented the fire chiefs of the Nesquehoning Hose Company, Hauto Volunteer Fire Company and New Columbus Fire Company, as well as the police chief with $500 donations to help provide services to the community.
“We discussed making a few donations to the community as we know how difficult the times are now in our current situation,” Michael A. DeMichael, secretary of the club, said.
Members of the club gathered at the Nesquehoning Hose Company and presented the checks to the four groups.
John McArdle, fire chief for Nesquehoning Hose Company, said, “It is something that is great to do for us. Certainly, in the times that we have here raising money and trying to keep things going, every little bit helps. It is most appreciated and we thank everyone for doing this for us.”
His fellow fire chiefs Jim Nardozzi and David Walls echoed his sentiments, thanking the Sokol Club for their generosity.
Police Chief Sean Smith also thanked the club, saying this was very unexpected, but most appreciated.
The Sokol Citizens Club raised the money throughout the year through small games of chance.
