Coaldale man charged with making false reports

A Coaldale man who has been in trouble for filing false police reports earlier this year was charged again after filing additional false reports.

Kerry Lee Freedman, 45, of East Phillips Street, was charged again by Nesquehoning police on Friday morning for the false reports. It was also in Nesquehoning where his other charges occurred in May.

According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police Chief Sean Smith, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Freedman arrived at the police station and began saying a woman had been raped multiple times and had pictures to prove it.

When an officer looked at Freedman’s cellphone, it was a blank screen, but Freeman was still insisting it was the woman being raped. This was the same claim that resulted in previous charges.

When the officer said he didn’t see a picture, Freedman began yelling that no one would help him and threatened to sue the department. He then got back into his vehicle and sped off.

Two minutes later, 911 dispatchers called the department about Freedman’s rape report at a home on the unit block of Rhume Street. Dispatchers also told police that Freedman’s license was suspended and he had an active PFA on him from the woman who he was claiming was being raped.

Police again went to the residence in question after dispatchers plotted Freedman’s phone on Rhume Street.

When police arrived, he was on the porch yelling. He was taken into custody and then threatened police.

Officers again checked the home and spoke with residents but again found no evidence of a rape or the woman in question.

Officers noted that Freedman again was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Freedman also faces charges of driving while under suspension.

He was arraigned Friday morning and sent to Carbon County Correctional Facility after failing to post the $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12.
