Man charged with fleeing police, crashed into tree
An Albrightsville man has been charged with fleeing police before he crashed his vehicle into a tree.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Brendon King of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Jeffrey Rogasch:
At 6:59 p.m. July 20, King was on routine patrol traveling on Whiteman Lane in Penn Forest Township when he saw a blue Infiniti G35 spin its tires and speed down Whiteman Lane.
King attempted to catch up to the vehicle and saw the vehicle spin its tires and accelerate at a high rate of speed traveling on Crane Road.
King caught up with the vehicle on Bishop Circle and activated his emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop.
The vehicle turned onto Hughes Lane and began to slow down, but as King put his patrol vehicle in park, the vehicle revved its engine and took off, spinning its tires and traveling onto Elliot Lane, before it lost control and crashed at the corner, striking a tree in a wooded area.
The driver, Rogasch, 28, was taken into custody.
While interviewing Rogasch, King detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from him, and he would not answer how much he had to drink.
Rogasch was then transported to PSP Fern Ridge for a breath test, which he refused.
Rogasch faces charges of fleeing or attempting to elude officer; DUI; recklessly endangering another person; resisting arrest/other law enforcement; driving with license that’s been suspended/revoked; disregard traffic lane; and careless driving.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $3,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Sept. 2 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
