Two State park hikes planned

Two hikes have been planned for the state parks in Barnesville.

Naturalist Robin Tracey, of Tuscarora State Park, will lead a hike on the Oak/Hemlock trail at Locust Lake on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

The trail is 4 miles long and difficult. The trail loops around Locust Creek and traverses up the mountain for a great view of the forest below. Part of the hike includes the “tree identification trail” made by one of our Eagle Scouts. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Meet at the visitor parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Registration is required by calling Tracey at 570-467-2506. Bring a mask and be prepared to practice social distancing. Bring a lunch for a short break after the hike. Shine only.

Tracey will also lead a hike on the Crow, Lake View and Spirit trials on Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. the hike is 7 miles long and moderate in difficulty. This hike combines the best of the trails in Tuscarora State Park. Meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. This is a dog-friendly hike, but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people.

Registration is required due to a maximum capacity of 15 attendees. No walk-ins. Participants will receive a call to confirm their spot on this hike. A mask must be used and prepare to practice social distancing. Shine only and bring a lunch.
