A look back: July 8, 1972

The construction of a medical unit on Route 209 in Gilbert has begun, according to David L. Gamble, president of the board of trustees of the Palmerton Hospital.

The unit, which will include a waiting room, two examining rooms, doctor’s offices and a consultation room, is being built by the hospital and will be staffed by members of the hospital’s work force, according to hospital administrator Barbara Spadt.

The Gilbert Branch of the First National Bank of Palmerton has provided a half-acre of land adjacent to the bank for the location of the unit. The modular building will measure 12 by 60 feet. The state Department of Labor and Industry approved the plan last week.
