Sheriff’s office to use centralized background program

Carbon County’s sheriff’s office is looking to use a centralized background investigation program to help cut down on the time it takes when doing searches on outstanding warrants.

On Thursday, the county commissioners approved a Clear Program agreement with Thomas Reuters to aid in locating and apprehending defendants wanted on outstanding warrants at a cost of $162 a month for three years with a 3% increase annually for the next three years and a 7% increase annually after that.

Sheriff Anthony Harvilla said via email Thursday morning that the Clear Program that law enforcement agencies utilize consolidates several search engines in an efficient manner.

“The benefit is a more rapid response as opposed to searching each database separately,” he said. “We will use the service primarily in our warrant service duties in an effort to promote office efficiency.”
