Friends of Animals prepares for Rockin’ Rescue

With Carbon County in the green phase of reopening, Carbon County Friends of Animals is gearing up for its 10th annual Rockin’ Rescue.

The three-day event will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on July 10; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on July 11 and noon to 6 p.m. on July 12 in Weissport Borough Park.

Proceeds from the event will benefit CCFOA and the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society to help with cruelty and neglect cases.

Kimmy Mulik, an officer with CCFOA, said that the event will be similar to those held in other years, but will follow social distancing and gathering size guidelines, as well as masks being recommended but not required.

There will be live music from bands including the Bees Knees, Off R Rocker, Senile Delinquents and Bugsy’s Evolution Friday and Saturday, and the Pennsylvania Villagers Polka on Sunday.

A car show by the Palmerton Pace-Makers will also take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 11.

A Creature Comforts vet clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. People may bring dogs and cats for rabies and distemper shots, as well as microchipping. Dogs must be leashed and cats in carriers.

In addition, CCFOA will hold its annual Chinese auction, there will be food vendors, crafters, yard sale, cake walk and more.

“The most important thing is the safety of all,” Mulik said, noting that the group is urging people to wear a mask if they are able to and social distancing will be monitored. “We will follow the recommended green phase protocol.”

The group is asking for people who want to purchase Chinese auction tickets to bring their own pen to fill out tickets. The drawing will then be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and the group will call winners.

There will be music by DJ Star Stracks, raffles and food available for purchase.
