Weatherly removes unsafe Koehler’s Crossing footbridge

The old Koehler’s Crossing footbridge over the Black Creek in Weatherly was removed last Tuesday. The bridge that once took workers to and from the Lehigh Valley Railroad shops and later Weatherly Steel, and homemakers to downtown shops, has been hauled away.

The bridge was not owned by the borough, and in recent years had fallen into disrepair. Weatherly officials closed it off out of concern it might collapse.

Contractors cut the bridge off its moorings, and lifted it whole to the trailer. A short piece of the bridge was cut from the span, and was left behind for the Weatherly Museum to display.

This piece of the Koehler's Crossing bridge will become part of the Weatherly Museum's collection. SETH ISENBERG/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
