A Vermont development firm wants to clear the Bald Mountain in Lehigh Township to build a housing development which will overlook the Lehigh Gorge State Park.

Patten Corporation, which reportedly specializes in real estate ventures, plans to establish an exclusive 80-lot housing development on 1,200 acres at the top of the mountain in the northern end of Carbon County.

In a published report, a firm spokesman said the natural setting at the top of the hill will be preserved at all costs for the good of the environment and because that is the way Patten does business.

The firm plans on buying the land from Blue Ridge Real Estate.
