Slatington woman in custody after standoff with police

A Slatington woman is in custody after a standoff with police on Friday.

Borough police Chief Dave Rachman said the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Fifth Street.

Police said Kathleen Barthol, 60, came out of her home and approached a bunch of people with a shotgun and pointed it at several people.

At that point, Rachman said Barthol retreated back to her house, and that once police arrived, they called trying to get her outside, but she wouldn’t come out so they called her over the PA system.

Rachman said Barthol’s boyfriend came out of the home, but Barthol did not.

He said the area was cordoned off, and the Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team was called out and they called for Barthol to come out, before going into the house and clearing it.

At that time, Rachman said Barthol was found hiding on the third-floor attic, and the weapons were found in the living room.

He said there were no injuries, nor was there any property damage.

Rachman said Barthol was taken into custody at 11:45 p.m.

He said Barthol was arrested for aggravated assault and terroristic threats.
