A look back: May 28, 1963

A woman has been elected commander of the Dolon-Jones-Martino American Legion Post, Jim Thorpe, for the first time in its history.

Mrs. Clyde Shoop, the former Arlene Heydt, who served in the WACs during World War II, was elected to the position at last night’s meeting.

Her aides in office will be Bruno Schlecht, first vice commander; Joseph Lazorick, second vice commander; Robert Mayor, finance officer; Francis O’Donnell, sergeant-at-arms; Ralston Jones, historian; and Theodore Hinger, chaplain.

Leonard Jordan, George Strohl and Frederick Stehle were accepted as new members of the post.
