A look back: May 19, 1982

A subdivision was approved by the Carbon County Planning Commission yesterday that will provide for a new industry, Atomized Metal Powders Inc., of Flemington, New Jersey, to locate a $1.5 million construction project in Lower Towamensing Township.

The firm also plans to relocate its powdered aluminum manufacturing unit in the township on approximately 40 acres of land currently owned by the New Jersey Zinc Company.

The construction plans call for three major buildings to house office and warehouse space and a furnace building to melt 1,500-pound ingots to a molten stage. Eventually 35-40 people would be needed to staff the five-day, round-the-clock operation.
