Route 895 bridge in Bowmanstown set to be repaired

The Route 895 Bridge over the Lehigh River in Bowmanstown is set to receive some repairs.

Construction work on the bridge is scheduled to begin Monday, and last until Sept. 30, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Ron Young.

Young said there will be weekday traffic restrictions from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. that will consist of lane restrictions with flagging on 895 between Lehigh Street and Riverview Road.

He said work on the bridge includes deck and beam repairs, epoxy deck overlay, replace or repair deck joints, and substructure concrete repairs.

Young said Bi-State Construction Co. Inc. is the contractor performing the work under a $1,337,436 contract to make repairs to three bridges in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance transportation planning organization region.

He said the other two bridges are the Route 54 Bridge over Pine Creek in Rush Township, and the Route 61/Broad Street Bridge over Mahanoy Creek in Ashland Borough.

Young said the contract calls for bridge repairs on the three bridges including, but not limited to, concrete deck repairs, deck overlays, deck joint repairs/replacements, scour countermeasures, substructure concrete repairs, beam strengthening and other miscellaneous construction.
