Women’s consignment shop closes doors due to COVID-19

A consignment shop in Walnutport has been forced to shutter its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Leah’s Lucky Finds, located at 350 S. Best Ave., opened in August but had to close its doors as a result of COVID-19, owner Leah Moyer posted on her business Facebook page.

“With a heavy heart, I have to announce that Leah’s Lucky Finds will NOT be reopening after the pandemic. The store took a hard hit from COVID-19 and did not receive any funding. I am unable to bounce back and have no choice but to go back to working full time in X-Ray. I am going to miss all of you so much! I want to thank you all for the support, fantastic reviews and the friendships I have formed through this process. I hope to be able to reopen again one day! I will be continuing with my online store.”

Moyer, of Walnutport, said she’s uncertain though how she plans to continue with her online store.

“At this point, I’m not sure if that part will remain consignment, or if I will be sourcing the clothing for the online part, but I will definitely still keep my business Facebook page up to date,” Moyer said.

Moyer, who opened the women’s consignment shop in August, said she had been selling clothing online for about five years through the Poshmark app.

“I just really enjoyed doing that; I started off with selling my own clothes, and then I would go to yard sales and stuff like that and I would find clothes to resell on there,” she said. I had mannequins and I would style the clothes; I had a lot of fun with it.”

Moyer explained where she got the idea to open her own storefront.

“I just always had a passion for secondhand clothing,” she said. “Growing up, my mom just always took me to thrift stores, secondhand stores, yard sales; it was just something that was just always a passion for me.”

Moyer added that she read books on starting a business, and one book specific to opening a consignment shop, “and that basically gave me the tools that I needed to start up. I did it all on my own; I really enjoyed it, I loved being there every day, loved my customers, created a lot of friendships with my consignors and my customers.”

Moyer said she ended with about 300 consignors.

“It was truly, it didn’t feel like work to me, it was truly one of my dreams,” she said. “I’m glad I got to follow a dream that I had; I loved being there every day, interacting with the customers and consignors.”

As she moves forward, Moyer said she hasn’t given up on her dream to one day reopen her business.

“I hope to reopen one day,” she said. “It was definitely something that I couldn’t prepare for, and I’m just really upset that I have no choice to close.”
