Prothonotary’s report

Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released the statistical report of activities for her office for the month of March.

There were 588 cases started in the month with the following breakdown: civil actions, 36; court rules, 3; custody, 13; DJ appeals, 1; divorce, 15; license appeal, 6; mortgage foreclosures, 14; protection from abuse, 33; quiet title, 2; replevin, 1; CT appointment, 1; judgments, 430; miscellaneous, 3; STIP/WAIV liens, 3; zoning appeals, 1; modification of custody, 10; and writ of execution, 26.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no passports were processed in the month.

Total income generated was $33,118.89; prothonotary fees, $22,634.94; custody/divorce fees, $6,755; data processing fees, $3,052.10; interest income, $1; PFA surcharge sheriff, $190.55; PFA surcharge courts, $175.05; and stenographer fees, $310.25.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $2,100, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $4,532.99, and automation fund $705 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office.

Also, for March, Semmel and her staff worked to clear several years backlog in the escrow funds (money sitting on inactive cases.) As a result a total of $22,568.06 was remitted to individuals from the inactive cases.

Credit default

Midland Funding, San Diego, California, filed a civil action against Traver Williams, 309 Union Hill Road, Lehighton, alleging a default on a credit card account. Sought is $1,277.13.
