Schuylkill man facing charges in assault

A Schuylkill County man is facing multiple charges following an incident that occurred on April 16 about 7 p.m.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Clayton Pepe, 31, of Auburn, used force to enter the residence of a 26-year-old woman along Green Tree Drive, in West Brunswick Township. Once inside he hit the victim and proceeded to strangle her in an attempt to take her cellphone and car keys. Troopers said Pepe forced the items from the victim. At some point, however, the victim was able to leave the residence and retrieve her items.

Pepe was later taken into custody on a warrant. He was charged with burglary, strangulation, intimidation of a witness, robbery, all felonies; terroristic threats, simple assault, false imprisonment, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief. He was arraigned and taken to the county prison in Pottsville for failing to post bail. Court records indicate he has since been bonded out of the prison.
