Polk Township supervisors
Polk Township supervisors this week reported on the following:
Fire company
• The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company had 12 emergency responses documented for April to date, with 73 total responses for the year.
• All fire company events have been postponed for the time being until further notice. Some postponed events noted were novelty bingos, breakfast, rentals and other fundraising events.
• Residents should expect to start seeing their membership materials in the mail this upcoming week; with fundraising events postponed, support from community membership is strongly needed.
Road report
• Supervisors passed a motion to conduct a road study to improve upon safe driving conditions on Burger Hollow. Road signs as well as other factors were discussed.
• Heavy rain affected current road work; the paving project for Lower Middle Creek Road is ongoing.
• Last week, flooding issues led several trees to be down near Smith Road; continuing road work and patching potholes.
• Nearly a dozen trees at Camp Harlam were taken down; trees were dead and leaning out toward the roadway, becoming hazardous.
• Trees on Dorshimer Road that have potential for road hazard will be removed.
Solid waste and recycling
• The recycling center is not accepting recycling to abide by COVID-19 mitigation efforts.
Parks
• Memorial Day program is canceled; rescheduling for future dates is under consideration.
Property tax discount
• Township property tax discount extended until Aug. 31, in unity with the county.
