Police report on Lehigh County crashes

State police at Bethlehem reported investigating two crashes recently in Lehigh County.

• A crash was reported at 9:49 a.m. on April 27 along Mountain Road in Washington Township. Troopers said Daniel S. Behler, 40, of Palmerton, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound when the vehicle crossed over the southern fog line and struck a utility pole. Behler was not injured. The utility pole had to be replaced and the incident caused electrical power outages in the immediate area, troopers said.

Behler was cited in the incident.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at 6:07 a.m. on April 27 along Flint Hill Road in Heidelberg Township in which the driver was later apprehended.

Troopers said a vehicle was driven eastbound when the right side crossed the fog line and went onto a grassy area. The passenger side mirror struck a speed limit sign and then the passenger side collided with a utility pole about 20-feet east of the speed sign. The driver then left the scene.

Red paint marks were observed on the sign and pole as well as parts of a vehicle were found on the ground. A canvas of the area was conducted and a vehicle matching the description was located - a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. The driver was identified as Samantha R. Horvath, 27, of New Tripoli. Charges will be filed.

• A 24-year-old man from South Fork, Colorado, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by state police at the Bethlehem barracks after they were summoned to a one-vehicle crash at 6:11 p.m. April 11 at Mauch Chunk Road and Maple Street in North Whitehall Township.

Police said he was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt north on Mauch Chunk Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. It left the road, traveled down an embankment and rolled onto its roof.

Police did not say if the driver was injured.
