Lehigh man jailed for setting fire

A Lehigh County man was jailed recently, charged with setting his home on fire.

Upper Macungie Township police said on March 15, fire companies were dispatched to 331 Barn Swallow Lane in the township for a structure fire. Firefighters found the second floor front bedroom on fire. The fire was extinguished.

As the result of an investigation, Neil S. Asnani, 28, of that address, has been charged with setting the fire. Police said Asnani intentionally ignited the fire while another occupant was at the home and an adjoining home was also occupied.

He has been charged with six counts include five felony charges of arson endangering persons (two counts), arson endangering property, arson reckless burning or exploding and risking a catastrophe and a misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Allentown unable to post $75,000 straight cash bail. Troopers said no one was injured in the incident.
