Pa. releases more detailed virus numbers

The Pennsylvania Department of Health released expanded data regarding COVID-19 on Thursday.

A more detailed breakdown of negative results at the county level, regional data, positive results and death information by gender, and positive results and death information by race and ethnicity was made available.

The information comes a day after the department released more figures on cases in nursing homes and supplements the figures for cases and hospitalizations by age.

“It is important to remember that the data reported for one day is a snapshot of what happened the day before,” said Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine. “We are looking at trends in data to base our decisions and to see if the social distancing, the mitigation and prevention measures that the governor has ordered are working.

“Our trends show that the Pennsylvanians sacrifice to stay at home is working. We have been able to flatten that curve, and to date, our health care system is staying stable and we have not had a wave of cases that have overwhelmed our health care system.”
