An Easton man was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, in lieu of $100,000 bail after an assault on a woman in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said Eric Hayes, 37, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and other offenses.

Police said he struck the woman with a closed-fist multiple times at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1100 block of Sky High Terrace. She had a bruised right eye and told officers she temporarily lost vision in the eye.

Police said the woman told them Hayes used a flashlight taser on the woman. She said she was unable to catch her breath due to the multiple taser deployments.

Once troopers were on scene, Hayes resisted arrest and kicked, spit on and coughed on the officers. None of the troopers were injured, police said.
