Since Catholics can’t come to Jesus during this Easter season, Jesus is coming to you.
St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley pastor, the Rev. Allen Hoffa, will be leading a profession through the four towns of the Panther Valley with the Blessed Sacrament as a way to connect parishioners in this time of need leading up to Easter.
“Holy Thursday is the night we celebrate the Institution of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith,” the parish posted on its Facebook page. “Since we won’t be able to gather the faithful in church, we are coming to the four towns that comprise our parish.”
The event will begin with a Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 p.m. via a livestream on the parish’s Facebook page. After the Mass, the procession will begin, heading to Nesquehoning at 8:15 p.m., where it will travel through the streets. The procession will then head to Coaldale for 9 p.m., Lansford for 9:30 p.m. and Summit Hill for 10:15 p.m.
The church on West Ludlow Street will also be open from 8 to 11 p.m. for silent prayer.
The parish says to light a candle in your front window from 8 to 11 p.m. as part of the procession.
“When the procession passes your house, honor Jesus with a brief flicker of your porch or house lights,” the parish said.
One thing the parish stresses is the importance of remaining in your home during this procession to remain safe.
Parishioners who take photos or videos of the procession may post them on the parish’s Facebook page “St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley” or email them to webmastersjpv@gmail.com.
Maps of the procession routes for each town are also posted on the event page on the parish Facebook page.
