Need treats for Fido? Try this recipe

The Times News asked its readers to share recipes that they are making while sheltering at home during the pandemic.

Samantha Bowman of Lehighton shared this recipe for homemade dog treats that are sure to please any pup.

“I’ve actually started to make homemade dog treats during this time due to not having a large selection of safe dog treats to purchase,” she said. “My family’s two Cheagles (Poppy and Lilly) love these Peanut Butter and Banana treats.”

If you have a recipe, whether for pups, kitties or humans, that has been a hit with the family, email it to us and we will feature it in one of our editions.

Don’t forget to include a high resolution photo of the food item you made. Recipes and photos, as well as a little information about yourself and what makes this recipe a hit can be emailed to tneditor@tnonline.com.

Homemade dog treats

1 large egg

1 large banana (mashed)

1/2 cup organic peanut butter (try to use peanut butter that contains only peanuts because artificial sugars found in peanut butter are harmful to dogs)

1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup rolled oats

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Mix all ingredients together into a bowl.

Then with a spoon, drop spoonfuls onto the cookie sheets (depending on what size dog you have will determine the size of treat you would like to make, because the unbaked treats don’t spread they stay the same size after baking).

Bake for 25-30 minutes. Then let cool and harden for 20-30 minutes.

Store in an open container in the fridge or save some for later by putting them into freezer safe ziplock baggies and freeze until needed.
