Man charged after threatening to stab woman with screwdriver

A Palmerton man has been charged after he allegedly threatened to stab a woman with a screwdriver.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Brian White of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:

At 9:24 a.m. Feb. 4, White was dispatched to a home in the 400 block of Lehigh Avenue for a domestic incident.

Upon arrival, White met the victim, who said that she and her live-in boyfriend, Clayton Berger Jr., 32, were arguing and she asked him for money to pay the rent.

Berger told the woman that he was not giving her money, so the woman said she was going to go into Berger’s wallet and take money.

Berger picked up a screwdriver and said he was going to stab the woman.

Berger punched the woman in the head and then grabbed her by the back of the head.

The woman said she then punched Berger to get him off her, and Berger kicked and punched her in the stomach.

She called 911, which prompted Berger to leave the house before police arrived.

Police searched the area for Berger, but were unsuccessful.

White then called Berger and left a message on his cellphone for him to call back, but never received a call.

Berger faces charges of simple assault; recklessly endangering another person; terroristic threats; flight to avoid apprehension; and harassment.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 25 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
