Carbon shelter lowers fees to adopt during February

Looking for a new man’s best friend?

Why not check out the Carbon County Animal Shelter.

During the county commissioners’ meeting on Thursday, the board made the move to name February “Love a dog for life” month in honor of dog adoptions in the hopes of finding more dogs in the shelter forever homes. The county animal shelter is located at 63 Broad St., Nesquehoning, on top of the Broad Mountain off Route 93.

The commissioners also approved lowering the adoption fee from $100 to $50 for the month of February.

Carbon County began naming February as a special month at the shelter in 2014 and it helped increase the number of adoptions in previous years.

As of Friday morning, the shelter has 25 dogs, including two litters of puppies, under its care. Some have been there for months, or even years, waiting to find their forever home.

Bella is one example of a pup who is still waiting to find her new best friend.

According to a post by the shelter on Facebook, Bella has been under the staff’s care for approximately two years.

She loves to cuddle, is playful and is great walking on a leash, but just hasn’t found the person who sees her as the special dog she is.

For more information on the shelter or to adopt a dog, visit the shelter between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays or check them out on Facebook at Carbon County Animal Shelter PA. The staff asks that you call ahead at 570-325-4828 to make sure someone is available since sometimes they are called out for a rescue.
