Crash update: Father, daughter injured in van incident

Coaldale Police have released information about two people struck by a van on Jan. 13 in Coaldale.

Police were dispatched to the area of Ridge Terrace Housing on East Ridge Street for pedestrians struck by a vehicle.

The people, a father and a daughter, had been backed over by a 1988 Ford full-size van.

Both pedestrians had suffered severe injuries. Richard McNeal Jr. of Tamaqua was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Miners campus by ambulance and Tiffany McNeal of Coaldale was taken via helicopter to St. Luke’s Bethlehem.

Police said they had parked the vehicle and unloaded a mattress from the back. The mattress was placed against the van.

It is believed the vehicle transmission was not properly placed into park by Richard McNeal and the vehicle shifted into reverse, causing it to strike the involved. Both parties were knocked to the ground and were run over by the vehicle.
