Long-time shop owners selling business

Owners of a popular work wear store in Palmerton have put the business up for sale after nearly 20 years.

Susan and Dean Meckes, who opened My Store on 418 Delaware Ave. at the start of the century, move from their home in the borough and head south for retirement. The couple have been trying to sell the store for a few years now, Susan said.

But handing over the business the two have spent years establishing, she added, hasn’t been easy.

“I’m very sad,” Susan said. “I’m going to miss a lot of people when I’m not here.”

Susan and Dean hope the business will be kept a retail store, continuing to sell popular utilitarian clothing brands like Columbia Sportswear, Under Armour and Red Wing Shoes. The building, which measures over 3,700 square feet according to its online listing, carries a more than $400,000 price tag, which includes the years of effort required to build the business, Susan said.

Costs for merchandise will be evaluated and added at the time of sale.

Susan said one thing she’ll miss about owning My Store is interacting with customers, some of who have supported it for years.

“Without them, we would have nothing.”
