Lehighton dance studio wins national contest

A Lehighton dance studio garnered enough online votes to win a national contest.

Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC won the PAC Attack Challenge.

On Tuesday, Precision Arts Dance challenge visited the studio and presented a check in the amount of $500, along with a pizza party for the dancers winning the contest.

Kim Semmel, owner and artistic director of Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC, said the team was among 27 other dance teams recognized around the country.

“The award coming to a little school in Lehighton,” Semmel posted on Facebook. “A special thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.”

Over the summer, the school’s Diamond Impact Dance Team, which consisted of a group of 17 girls who range in age from 12 to 18, was nominated for the contest for its dance “All That Jazz.”

A group of judges chose their favorite routines from all the competitions held around the country, which included the Diamond Impact Dance Team dancing a Bob Fosse style routine.

Choreographed by Brittany Semmel, assistant artistic director, Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts LLC, the routine was nominated for the Most Entertaining Routine.

The winning routines were posted online for voting, which was done on Facebook with one vote per user.

Kim Semmel said she has 200 kids at her school, of which about 60 compete on a regular basis.

“Hard work pays off, and the dancers sure did work hard,” she posted on Facebook. “Congratulations to Brittany on her first national award with her jazz choreography.”
