Commissioners finalize recycling plans

During a workshop meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners approved a supply agreement with Weiner’s Iron and Metal in Pottsville. Weiner’s will accept corrugated cardboard and commingled aluminum and steel cans generated from the county’s 16 drop-off sites. At a previous meeting, the commissioners renewed an agreement with Cougle’s Recycling in Hamburg to handle the county’s RMP (mixed magazines, junk mail and phone books) and commingled plastics from the county drop-off sites.

In other action, the commissioners:

• Approved using an additional $425,000 from liquid fuels for county bridge 140, which spans Deep Creek on the Weishample Road, Barry Township. County Engineer Lisa Mahall said the county had previously encumbered $250,000 from liquid fuels, bringing the total to $675,000 for the project.

• Awarded two demolition contracts to AMC Enterprise in Ashland. The company will earn $10,884 to demolish 412-414 E. Arlington St. and $9,444 to demolish 323 Furnace St., both in Shenandoah.
