A vacant home sustained damage after it caught fire early this morning in Polk Township.

Township fire Chief Billy Tippett said the fire broke out at 1:35 a.m. at the single-story ranch-style home at 8755 Twin Lake Dr. in Robin Hood Lakes, Kunkletown. Tippett said that three-quarters of the roof was on fire at the home when firefighters arrived. The fire stayed above the ceiling light in the attic.

“We extinguished the fire, overhauled it,” said Tippett, who added that the home is up for sale.

Tippett said the matter has been turned over to a state fire marshal at the Hazleton barracks who will determine the cause of the fire.

“We did contact a state fire marshal based on our policies and procedures based on that it was a vacant house,” he said.

Tippett said the home sustained moderate to major damage, adding that the entire roof is gone, though all four walls are still standing.

He said there were no injuries.

Tippett said firefighters had the fire under control within about 45 minutes, but didn’t clear the scene until 4:18 this morning.

Also responding to the scene were West End Fire Company, and West End Ambulance.

“Both companies worked very well together, had a quick knock down,” he said. “It was a well-orchestrated and coordinated extinguishment of the fire.”

Tippett noted that the fire department is always in need of volunteers.
