Rotary Club of Slatington, Giant, team up to collect donations during NL Halloween parade

For the past several years, the Rotary Club of Slatington has been walking in the Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade and collecting donations.

This year, the organization is teaming up with Giant Food Store of Walnutport asking parade spectators for donations during the 112th Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade.

The parade will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is 6 p.m. Sunday.

Spectators are asked for nonperishable goods and monetary donations for the Northern Lehigh Food Bank, according to Eric Heiney, member, Rotary Club of Slatington.

“Rotary members and Giant volunteers will be walking in the parade with Giant shopping carts to collect your donations,” Heiney said. “Please help us fill our carts for the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.”

Heiney explained how the partnership developed.

“I contacted Giant asking if we could borrow some of the grocery carts, and they wanted to send some volunteers and wanted to join us,” he said. “They liked what we’re doing.”

Heiney noted that the Rotary Club of Slatington will be in Division I of the parade, and urged spectators to look for them.

“People can look for a truck with a banner on it,” he said. “We’ll be walking with Giant shopping carts right behind the truck.”

Heiney said he’s grateful to Giant for teaming up and working together with the Rotary Club of Slatington.

“They’re new to our community; everybody wins,” he said. “Our goal is to fill the carts, and fill the Northern Lehigh Food Bank.”
