Convicted sex offender fails to register address

A Lansford man has been charged with failure to comply as a registered sex offender.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Anthony Campanell of the Lansford Borough Police Department:

On July 2, the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Unit requested that Lansford police investigate Jeremy Highland, 28, of the 600 block of East Patterson Street, for failure to register as a sexual offender.

Highland has been an offender since his conviction on Dec. 19 in Florida, and was aware that he needed to register his current address with the Pennsylvania State Police. He is required to register any time he moves and on a quarterly basis.

Highland registered with Pennsylvania State Police in Frackville (Troop L) on Jan. 31.

Since then, his last known address is Lansford.

Lansford Police confirmed that Highland is no longer at that address, and the current tenants have no relation to him.

Highland’s new address is unknown, and since receiving this request, he is still noncompliant with the Megan’s Law registry.

Highland faces charges of failure to comply with registration requirements.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $40,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 9 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
