Slatington man charged with harassing customers at gas station

A Slatington man with active arrest warrants has pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after he harassed customers at a gas station.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman William Borst of the Slatington Borough Police Department:

At 9:27 p.m. Aug. 26, Borst and officer Kevin Torres were dispatched to the Sunoco Gas Station at 160 Main St. for the report of a man loitering on the property.

A store employee told police that Jeffrey Cross, 52, was harassing customers at the business and was badgering customers for money.

Police were dispatched to the same business the day before for Cross loitering on the property.

Borst got out of his vehicle and began walking toward Cross, but ran up the bank behind the business. Borst caught him and again ordered him to stop.

Cross pulled away from Borst, causing the both of them to fall over a guard rail onto the pavement of Iron Alley.

After a struggle, Borst and Torres placed Cross into handcuffs. He smelled like alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Borst discovered that Cross had two active arrest warrants from Connecticut. Charges of resisting arrest, loitering and public drunkenness were withdrawn at a preliminary hearing.
