Bowmanstown man charged with cocaine possession

A Bowmanstown man has been charged with possession of cocaine.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Brian White of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:

On July 30, three juveniles came to the borough police station and said they witnessed a man snorting something near the Third Street ball field near the borough garage.

Upon arrival, White and Sgt. Chris Ritter came in contact with Roy Stenger, 40, who was highly fidgety and sweating profusely. Stenger told police he was up all night working and tired.

Police told Stenger that he was seen snorting something, and he said that it was Wellbutrin, as he was trying to get himself off opioids.

Stenger was asked if he had anything on him, and he said that he had a needle in his front pocket.

Police found a capped hypodermic needle in Stenger’s front pocket, and he had a small clear plastic baggie with a waxine paper inside.

When asked what this was, Stenger said it was a crushed Wellbutrin pill.

A test of the white substance gave a positive reaction for cocaine.

Stenger faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Sept. 25 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
