Mahoning to LV portion of turnpike to be shut down Sept. 6-9

A full closure and detour of the Pennsylvania Turnpike – I-476 will be in effect from the Allentown Interchange (A-56) to Mahoning Valley Interchange (A-74) beginning Friday, Sept. 6 at 9 p.m., and continue through 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, according to a release issued by contractor J.D. Eckman.

During this time, both northbound and southbound traffic from the turnpike will be following a posted detour.

The closure will allow the superstructure replacement of a mainline bridge that crosses over Route 309.

Access will be completely restricted for all traffic, including emergency services vehicles, from milepost 56 to milepost 74.

Traffic will be detoured to Interstate 80 to Route 33 to Route 22.

Emergency services vehicles will not be permitted to access the turnpike during the closure without implicit permission.

In the event of inclement weather that would prevent work starting on the evening of Sept. 6, the backup dates will be the following weekend.
