Man charged after failing to comply with Megan’s Law requirements

A Lehighton man previously convicted of corruption of minors was picked up by Nesquehoning police after he was released from prison and failed to supply the state with his updated address.

Christopher Jon Schnell Jr., 22, of Center Alley North, has been charged with failure to comply with registration requirements of Megan’s Law.

According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police, on July 11, officers received a phone call from the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law unit regarding Schnell, who was released from the prison, located in Nesquehoning, on June 7.

Schnell, upon leaving the prison, did not register his new address with the state police as required since he is a tier 1 offender and must register every time he moves and on a quarterly basis.

On July 26, police located Schnell in Lehighton and took him into custody. He told police that he was told he did not have to register for a year after his release, which was not true.

He was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek and returned to the county prison on $3,000 bail.
