Tamaqua man jailed for theft, assaulting trooper

A Tamaqua man was jailed on Tuesday for assaulting a state trooper and on a theft count.

State police at Lehighton said troopers went to the residence of Jordan Ohl, 23, at 232 Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, at 8:26 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant for theft and related counts. Ohl resisted arrest and kicked a trooper several times in the legs. During the struggle a marked police cruiser was also dented and damaged.

The theft occurred along N. 12 St., in Lehighton, earlier in the day. Ohl is charged with receiving stolen property and related counts for the theft of currency from a wallet.

For the incident in Tamaqua he has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Joseph Homanko, of Weatherly, and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $15,000 straight cash bail. A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for July 17 at 3:30 p.m. before district judge Eric Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
