New NL event to replace The Gathering

Due to high expenses and other variables, a long-standing Northern Lehigh tradition will not be held this fall.

Held annually since 2003, The Gathering community festival has been discontinued, according to the Venture Group Planning Committee.

Instead, the committee said a new event, Lazy Day at the Covered Bridge, will be held in its place.

Organized by the Northern Lehigh Historical Society, the festival, normally held on the first Saturday in October, will not be held this year, according to a letter from the committee.

“High expenses, declining attendance and marginal weather over the past four events led to the tough decision. As one of the members of the Venture Group, who took over The Gathering five years ago, the Northern Lehigh Historical Society is part of the planning committee for events held by the Group.”

Lazy Day at the Covered Bridge will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Trout Run Covered Bridge.

Carry-over events from The Gathering will include the Duck Race, basket auction on the bridge, music and food, as well as kid-friendly activities.

Activities that won’t be carried over include fireworks and the Bier Garden, the committee said.

“Our goal is to provide a more family-oriented environment, and a better chance of good weather.”

The festival was first held in 2004 to dedicate the Trout Run Covered Bridge.
