Summer lunch program

Just a reminder that the Jim Thorpe Summer Children/Family lunch program has begun and will run until July 26. It is held at the Masonic Lodge Social Hall, Fifth and Center Street (white building facing Fifth Street), Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is free. All children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult and this a no smoking premises.

Clothing collection

St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will begin collecting clean, used or new clothing for their annual clothing give away on July 1. Collection will run until July 12. Drop off times are Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays 6 to 8 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help sort the clothing until the giveaway dates. If you are interested in helping to sort and fold clothing, contact Mary Strohl, 570-325-2294. Volunteers are also needed when the giveaway begins to help those people selecting clothing.

The giveaway will be Thursdays, Aug. 8, and 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays, Aug. 9 and 16, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, Aug. 10 and 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They will also accept monetary donations to purchase school uniforms and supplies for children. Checks can be made out to St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Heights and cash donations can be given to Mary Strohl or Bonnie Hoffman.
