Carbon county court – DUI

A Carbon County man pleaded guilty to two driving under the influence charges and a fleeing and eluding police charge on Thursday morning.

He was one of 10 defendants in pending DUI-related cases to enter a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Endangering count

Christopher James George

, 40, of Lehighton, also pleaded to one count each of endangering the welfare of children and driving under suspension.

George was arrested for DUI and fleeing police on Nov. 10, 2016, by Mahoning Township police along Beaver Street. He was originally charged with 11 criminal counts. The second arrest occurred on Aug. 19, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Franklin Township. He had his 9-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him. In both cases tests revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

Nanovic noted the driving under suspension count is his sixth overall conviction of that type of charge. He faces jail on each count.

Sentencing was deferred so George can get a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for placement in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, house arrest. Nanovic also ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.

It was also noted he has three more pending criminal cases in the county that are to be resolved with guilty pleas on July 8.
